Health Policies in Latin America: The Path to Universal Health Coverage
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To identify the latest advances in the evolution of Latin American health policies from the end of the last century to the present day and to analyze the fundamental role of universal health coverage. Materials and methods: The methodology used was based on three phases: identification and presentation of the research problem, search for relevant information in impact journals and systematic analysis of the information. Sources from online bibliographic databases were used. Results: The analysis of the literature allowed us to observe the successes and difficulties that the countries of the region have faced in implementing adequate policies in their health systems that allow achieving universal coverage. Conclusion: Due to the inefficiency
of Latin American health strategies, the need arises to redefine the paradigms in this field. It is expected that, in the short term, health policies will be redefined to learn from mistakes and achieve universal coverage that is equitable and fair for its entire population
