Ocular manifestations in rosacea patients
Main Article Content
Abstract
Patients with rosacea have ocular manifestations that are not well known, often underdiagnosed, nonspecific, persistent and severe that may affect vital structures for vision. The reason for the ocular compromise is not well known, but it has been confirmed to be of inflammatory origin. These findings are: burning sensation, burning sensation, photosensitivity, foreign body sensation, dysfunction of the Meibomian glands, conjunctivitis, palpebral edge telangiectasias, interpalpebral conjunctiva telangiectasias and chalazion. Objective. Demonstrate the frequency of ocular manifestations in rosacea. Materials and methods. It is an observational, prospective, transversal and descriptive study, which was carried out in patients older than 10 years with a diagnosis of rosacea performed at the Enrique Uraga Dermatological Center from January to June 2018. Results. A total of 37 patients with a diagnosis of rosacea, with a mean age of 36.91 ± 11.86 years. 70.3% (26/37) of the patients were female and 29.7% male (11/37). Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (ET) was found in 64.9% (24/37) of the patients and rosacea pustular papule (PP) in 35.1% (13/37). 91.9% (34/37) of the patients studied had ocular involvement associated with rosacea. Conclusion: From the results presented in this study we can conclude that ocular compromise is very prevalent in patients with rosacea, ocular symptoms are late clinical manifestations of the disease, ocular manifestations have an individual course, are not influenced by the type of rosacea, neither by age and sex of the patients.
